The plant grows and spreads rapidly, especially moist and shaded environment.
Egyptians have recorded its use as early as 1,000 BC. Hyppocrates praised its digestive benefits. Later in the 18th and 19th centuries western medicine it became a staple for treating indigestions and headaches.
Culinary uses

Peppermint adds freshness and complexity to a wide range of dishes. It is best used with restraint or in recipes that highlight its distinctive personality

Recipe
Fresh Peppermint and Chocolate ganache Tart
Ingredients
1 – pre-baked tart shell
2 – 200 g dark chocolate
3 – 200 ml heavy cram
4 – 2 tbsp butter
5 – 2 tbsp finely chopped fresh peppermint leaves
6 – pinch of sea salt
7 – whipped cream and peppermint leaves for garnish
Steps:
- In a saucepan, heat the cream with chopped peppermint until just simmering. Remove from heat and let steep 15 minutes.
- Strain the cream, return to low heat, and stir in chocolate and butter until melted and smooth.
- Pour the ganache into the tart shell and refrigerate until set (at least 3 hours).
- Garnish with whipped cream and fresh peppermint leaves.
