Classic Margherita Pizza

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce (tomato sauce mixed with a pinch of salt and dried oregano)
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 2-3 large ripe tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Fresh oregano leaves
  • Extra-virgin olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to the highest temperature (usually 500-550°F or 260-290°C).
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a round or rectangular shape, depending on your preference.
  • Transfer the rolled-out dough to a baking sheet or pizza stone lined with parchment paper.
  • Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  • Arrange the sliced mozzarella cheese and tomato slices on top of the sauce.
  • Sprinkle fresh oregano leaves and torn basil leaves over the pizza.
  • Drizzle some extra-virgin olive oil over the toppings, and season with a pinch of salt and black pepper.
  • Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
  • Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, then slice and serve. Garnish with additional fresh basil and oregano leaves if desired.
