Amelie

Amelia and Sophie have started a conversation which quickly heats up, while cap’n takes cover on the porch.

“I don’t want you to serve my father any alcohol––You hear!” Amelia’s loud voice resonates through the hanging pans and pots of the kitchen.

“We only serve what he orders… he is our boss. He hired us–” Sophie’s frown indicates an explosion coming from a plucky Sophie ready to withstand a heavy weather outbreak. My dearest Amelia, watch out your endeavor might have some unpleasant side effects. Without a warning, Cap’n turns around and reaches for the middle shelf next to the refrigerator. Amelia hastily moves around ketchup, potato-chip package, and a Cracker Jack box to retrieve the half-hidden bottle of rum. “No need to hide anything from me. His doctor ordered no alcohol for one month. I want my dad to live––”

Amelia bottle in hand, “I don’t want any of this in this house…, d’you hear?”

Sophie raises her chin with a puffed-up chest and delivers her two cents. “We are not his mother. Cap’n is big enough to take care of himself.”

Without a pip, Amelia walks out of the kitchen.

“Lucky she left right away after the discovery of the bottle. I was ready to punch her right on her nose.”

“Feisty sweet pea…, I will have rooted for you…., yes sirree. You are my star in the ring.”

“Don’t be condescending with me… this little pest is not going to tell me what to do. I have another bottle for the cap’n in the pantry. Go serve him a noggin.”

“You don’t want him…, to become crazy, don’t you?”

“A shot of rum, won’t hurt him. It’s even good for the heart before going to bed.” Sophie raises a thumb up.

“She wants to take over the way we should care for her father.”

“She even wants to teach me how to cook.”

“The funny stuff is cap’n mentioned, ‘my daughter never comes to visit me.’”

“She has developed a sudden love for daddy.”
